Description

Our Qilan is, like our other wuyi oolongs, a Zhengyan Yancha, which means that it grows in the limited area that is considered to produce the very best wuyi oolongs. This beautiful area with spectacular rock formations and the Jiuqu Xi River that winds its way through the landscape offers with its mineral-rich soil an excellent soil and is considered to give rise to the special mineral profile that real yancha (rock teas) exhibit. Today, it is common for yancha to be roasted in an electric oven because traditional charcoal roasting requires more of the tea master and is much more labor intensive. Like our other rock teas, Qilan is charcoal roasted, and roasting takes place in baskets over glowing coals. The temperature is relatively low and the roasting is done in batches and extends over several hours. This traditional roasting gives the tea a deep and inner glow. Qilan is complex and elegant, has a finely tuned depth in the taste and a very long, soft aftertaste. The aroma palette is characterized by minerals, almond milk, a light floral and warm, slightly toasted tones.
