Junshan Yinzhen is considered one of China’s most legendary teas and is the most famous example of yellow tea. The tea is produced exclusively from tender spring buds, which are hand-picked on the small island of Junshan in Dongting Lake in Hunan Province.

Unlike green tea, Junshan Yinzhen undergoes the traditional menhuang (”yellowing”) process, in which the buds are gently left to rest between repeated stages of drying. The result is a tea with greater roundness and depth than most green teas, whilst retaining its freshness and elegance.

In the cup, you are met by a clear, golden-yellow infusion with a silky mouthfeel. The flavour is smooth and elegant, with a distinct natural sweetness, hints of spring flowers and ripe fruit, and a light, creamy roundness. Fresh green notes and a lovely minerality lend balance and length to the aftertaste.

Truly high-quality Junshan Yinzhen is produced in very small quantities and requires both careful selection of raw materials and great skill during the manufacturing process. It is a tea that is prized for its balance, its pure character and its unusual combination of freshness and smoothness.
