Long Jing Superfine is a Chinese green tea from Zhejiang, the province where the classic Long Jing – also known as Dragon Well – originates. Long Jing has long been regarded as one of China’s most famous teas and is prized for its pure, mellow and balanced character. The traditional pan-firing process gives the leaves their characteristic flat shape, whilst also contributing to the roasted, nutty notes that have made this tea famous worldwide. Long Jing Superfine is made from carefully hand-picked leaves and represents an elegant style where fresh spring greenery meets a gentle sweetness and a long, clean aftertaste. Unlike Japanese green teas, which are usually steamed, Long Jing is pan-fired. This traditional method preserves the freshness of the leaves whilst developing a mild note of chestnut and roasted nuts.
The history of Long Jing stretches back several hundred years, and the tea has long held a special place in Chinese tea culture. During the Qing Dynasty, Long Jing became known as an ‘imperial tea’, and even today the finest Long Jing teas are regarded as some of China’s finest green teas. The combination of skilled craftsmanship, early spring picking and gentle pan-firing that characterises Long Jing has made the tea an international benchmark for Chinese green tea. It is, above all, the interplay between the raw material and the production process that gives Long Jing its character. During pan-firing, the leaves are shaped by hand whilst the temperature is continuously adjusted to preserve the delicate aromas. The result is a tea of great purity, low bitterness and a smooth, harmonious flavour.
