Jun Chiyabari – a pioneer in high-quality Nepalese tea

Jun Chiyabari Estate was founded with the ambition of demonstrating that Nepal can produce truly world-class tea. Over the past few decades, the estate has become one of the country’s most respected producers and is now renowned far beyond the Himalayas for its small-scale, innovative and award-winning teas. All our Nepalese teas come from this single estate, which allows us to closely monitor production and offer a cohesive range where each tea clearly reflects its origin.

The heights of the Himalayas shape the flavour

Jun Chiyabari is situated on the slopes of the Himalayas, where the cool air and the significant temperature differences between day and night mean that the tea leaves develop slowly. This slow growth often contributes to greater aromatic richness, freshness and elegance. The location near Darjeeling This means that some of the teas are reminiscent of classic Darjeeling teas, but the estate has also developed its own style, characterised by a highly intense aroma, a smooth texture and great purity.

More than just Darjeeling

Nepalese tea is often compared to Darjeeling, but Jun Chiyabari has shown that Nepal has much more to offer than that. The estate produces not only elegant black teas but also some of the Himalayas’ most highly prized green teas, white teas and oolong teas. Teas such as Himalayan Evergreen, Himalayan Black, Himalayan Bouquet, Himalayan White and Himalayan Handcrafted Tips shows how the same terroir can give rise to completely different expressions depending on the harvest time and production method.

Organic farming and crafts

All our Nepalese teas are organically certified. At Jun Chiyabari, the tea is grown without pesticides or artificial fertilisers, but the estate’s reputation is based above all on its meticulous craftsmanship. Each harvest is processed with great precision, and the aim is not to create a standardised flavour but to allow the vintage, the weather and the terroir to come to the fore. The result is vibrant teas, with each harvest possessing its own distinct character.

A modern tea culture

Unlike many traditional tea-growing regions, Nepal does not have a centuries-old tradition of tea export. It is precisely for this reason that producers such as Jun Chiyabari have been able to develop a modern tea culture where innovation goes hand in hand with traditional craftsmanship. The estate experiments with different levels of oxidation and production methods, whilst maintaining the high quality that has made Nepalese tea a well-kept secret amongst tea enthusiasts worldwide.
