China is the birthplace of tea and home to some of the world’s most famous teas. It was here that the first green teas, the classic oolong teas from Fujian, the aged pu-erh teas from Yunnan and many of the styles that later spread to the rest of the world were developed. With its unique diversity of teas, terroirs and traditions, China occupies a position in the world of tea that can best be compared to that of Europe in the world of wine. In our range, you’ll find everything from Long Jing and Anji Bai Cha to Tie Guanyin, Da Hong Pao, Keemun Gong Fu and aged Pu-erh teas. Together, they demonstrate the breadth that has made China the world’s leading tea-producing country.

China is not only the birthplace of tea but also home to many of the teas that have historically enjoyed the highest reputation amongst collectors, imperial courts, tea connoisseurs and producers. Several of the world’s most legendary teas, from classic rock oolongs and tribute teas to aged pu-erh teas, originate in China.

China’s unique position in the world of tea is not based solely on history. The exceptional diversity of terroirs, the presence of very old tea bushes and generations of specialised craftsmanship have given rise to some of the world’s most sought-after teas. From ancient pu-erh trees in Yunnan to the mineral-rich rock teas from Wuyi and the aromatic dancong teas from Fenghuang, China continues to set the benchmark for many of the tea world’s most prestigious styles.

As China is one of our most important sources of supply, we work on a long-term basis with producers in several of the country’s leading tea-growing regions. Our family ties to Hong Kong have, over the years, made it a natural part of our work to travel throughout the region and build close relationships with growers and tea makers. The result is a range that spans from well-known classics to more unusual teas that rarely reach the European market.
