Darjeeling tea has long been famous for its subtle, elegant shades. At an altitude of up to 2500 meters on the slopes of the Himalayas, around the small town of Darjeeling, we find some of the most legendary black teas. The region is known for its beautiful mountain environment, its cool healthy climate and above all the high quality teas. Darjeeling teas are often categorized as black, but in the name of honesty, they are not really black - they are usually oxidized less, which you also see in the greener color. The result is light, healthy, elegant, herbal, often with a hint of blackcurrant leaves. We probably think it's as reminiscent of a nice oolong as a black tea. Since the Chinese variety of the tea plant is often used (Camellia sinensis), the similarities with oolong are natural.
